If you want to improve your Business English, Netflix can help. Language Learning with Netflix is the Google Chrome extension that helps you improve the language you’re studying quickly and easily. Simply download the extension and use it.

What’s the underlying idea?

The idea behind using Netflix to improve your English is one of the oldest principles in language teaching: namely, the best way to learn is by listening. This approach helps shift the language from the left hemisphere to the right hemisphere of the brain (where your native language resides). Netflix has integrated a series of new tools that allow you to enhance your English skills simply by watching your favorite films.

Learning by listening

Various studies show that listening is one of the key elements for learning a language effectively. Listening can help you acquire vocabulary, idiomatic expressions, and grammatical structures simply by paying attention. Language Learning with Netflix (LLN) is a Google Chrome extension that can provide the resources to do exactly that while enjoying your favorite films and series. It’s available on the Google Chrome store: once you reach the download page, simply select “Add to Chrome” and LLN will be installed on your browser. The system will then display a page with instructions so you can set up LLN exactly as you need it. You can choose between the free version or pro mode, depending on your requirements. In the free version, translation is performed by a computer, while in pro mode it has been done by humans—this adds value because idiomatic expressions are interpreted, not translated literally. Based on your English level, you can select various functions, including specific vocabulary in the mini-dictionary.

Using Language Learning with Netflix to improve your English

After downloading the extension, you’ll be asked to select your native language and then choose which content you want to view to improve your English skills. You can choose films or a box set. After making your selection, the LLN function will be activated on the chosen content. You can click on settings (icon in the top right) and make the necessary changes to adapt the system to your needs, such as the subtitle language and whether you want automatic translation or human translation. Then, simply get comfortable and enjoy your favorite Netflix programs while improving your English.
